About AwqafSA T20 2019

The annual Awqaf SA T20 Youth Cricket Tournament 2019 in association with Primrose Cricket Club, Western Province Cricket Association and the Imam Haron Foundation present the 4th edition of the Awqaf SA T20 Tournament. The tournament promises to be bigger and better when this year’s event – scheduled for 16-19 December at Primrose Cricket Club and surrounding venues bowls its first ball.
The 2019 tournament has been expanded to become the biggest Youth Cricket Tournament in South Africa and includes teams from Mini-Cricket, U10, U11, U12, U13, U15 and U17 age groups, as well as U13 and U15 divisions for girls’ teams. Bringing the total number of kids participating in the tournament to over 1000. The participation of the girl’s teams in the competition highlights the growing emphasis on the need to ensure our girls have an equal opportunity to participate in sporting codes.
This year’s tournament is of added significance as we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death in detention of Imam Abdullah Haron at the hands of the apartheid regime. Imam Haron was not only a religious leader and political activist who gave his life in advocating social justice, but he was also an avid sportsman that played a significant role in non-racial sport.
The ethos of the 4-day Tournament aims to promote social cohesion, and is designed to give the young players a sense of cricket heritage that instils within them the values of social justice using sport as a vehicle.
The youth tournament has been endorsed by the vice president of CSA, Beresford Williams, and WPCA CEO, Nabiel Dien, who act as its official patrons.
The tournament aims to promote social cohesion by allowing kids from varying walks of life to play the game of cricket at NO CHARGE. As a community owned Endowment Fund we would like to provide an equal opportunity to all the kids partaking in the tournament which will allow for a platform to build our communities.
