Valencia Pointe Fall Bocce League 2025
À propos Valencia Pointe Fall Bocce League 2025
VALENCIA POINTE BOCCE RULES OF PLAY
Revised 6/24/2025
THE COURTS
During fall, winter and spring (November through March) courts are reserved until 1 PM for residents only. No guests are permitted to play.
1. After play is completed, the losing team is responsible for (but everyone can help) brushing the courts and sweeping the concrete areas. Brooms should be replaced in the designated area outside the court.
2. Players are not permitted to walk on the center walkway between the courts. They may only walk on the side walkways.
3. Players should only use the pool or gym bathrooms when playing to avoid tracking the Har-Tru court material into the clubhouse.
START OF THE MATCH
1. Begin the match with a toss of a coin between each team. The winner of the coin toss has the first throw of the pallino and chooses the color of the team's balls.
2. The pallino is the first ball put into play and is thrown underhand from behind the foul line. The pallino or any team balls may be thrown off the sideboards. The toss of the pallino is valid if the pallino crosses the center line and is at least 12 inches away from the sideboards and not beyond the opposite end line.
3. If a player fails to do this, the throw goes to the other team. If the other team fails to throw the pallino in play, the pallino is placed approximately in the center of the foul line at the opposite end of the court. After the pallino is placed on the court the player from the first team throwing the pallino throws their ball.
4. Once the pallino is in play, the pallino can be knocked anywhere on the court except back over the center line or out of the court. If this occurs the frame ends and play resumes at the opposite end of the court with the same team throwing the pallino.
THE GAME
1. The team that wins the coin toss throws the first ball, then the opposing team throws a ball to establish who is closer to the pallino. The team whose ball is further away from the pallino continues to throw until their ball is closer.
2. A ball hitting the backboard without first touching the pallino or another ball is a dead ball and removed from play.
3. If a ball hits the support connecting the side wall to the back wall but does not hit the back wall, it remains in play.
4. If a player throws the wrong color ball it is replaced with the correct color ball after the ball comes to rest.
5. Balls may be measured at any time to establish who has the point. If the two closest balls are equidistant from the pallino, the opposite team then throws the next ball.
6. In the event of a tie after all balls are thrown, (the two closest balls to the pallino are from opposite teams and equidistant to the pallino), the first team to have thrown a ball must roll again from the opposite end of the court.
SCORING
1. The official score is determined after all 8 balls have been played. Only one team receives points in each frame.
2. One point is awarded for each ball of a team that is closer to the pallino than the opponent's closest ball [1-4 points].
3. The team that scores in the previous frame gets to throw the pallino and the first ball in the next frame.
4. A ball that touches the pallino is called a kiss and is worth 2 points.
5. Games are played to 10 points.
GAME NOTES
1. All balls must be thrown underhand.
2. Consecutive or alternating throws by teammates shall be at the option of the players.
3. Four person teams, each player may only throw two balls.
4. Players on the opposite side of the throwing team must be off the court for safety.
ADDITIONAL RULES FOR VP LEAGUE PLAY
TEAMS
Teams consist of at least 6 members. A team on the court has 4 players playing each game (2 stationed at each end of the court) with each player throwing 2 balls. All players must be members of the team. A team without at least 4 players present within 15 minutes of the scheduled game start time forfeits the game. However, if a team only has 3 players present, teams may ask the other captain if they are willing to “lend them” a player for the match or get approval from the other captain to use a substitute player.
Mixed league teams must have at least 3 men and 3 women on the team and for each game played during the match, at least one player must be of the opposite sex (e.g., 3 men and 1 women) or the team forfeits the match. Teams are required to provide equal participation by all members of the team.
TEAM CAPTAINS
Each team has a designated captain. The captain for each team must be identified to the opposing team before play begins. The captain is responsible for measuring the balls, scorekeeping, and reporting scores to the Bocce Committee Referee. Only the captain or their designee can call for a measurement. Also, only the captain (or their designee) can perform measurements and update the scores on the scoreboards. All other players are to remain at their end of the court.
The captains are also responsible for:
• calling team members when notified that a session has been cancelled.
• Captains are required to contact team members prior to each match and determine their availability. Once availability is confirmed, captains will assign and notify the players for each game.
• As noted in the previous section, a team may use one borrowed or substitute player.
• If less than four players are available, the captain must contact the opposing captain to concede(forfeit) the match or reschedule the match at a mutually agreed day and time.
• Matches can also be rescheduled due to weather.
• Rescheduled matches must be played within seven days of the original match date.
• Captains are also responsible for contacting team members when a match has been cancelled or rescheduled.
MATCH TIME AND PRACTICE THROWS:
Matches must end after two hours regardless of how many games are played. Before the start of a game each team is permitted a limited number of practice rolls which are included in the total time allowed after the designated start time of the match (two hours).
ROLLING OF BALLS
Each player rolls two balls per frame. Both feet must be on the court surface when rolling balls. The person throwing the pallino roles the first ball. The next ball is thrown by a member of the opposing team. Each subsequent ball is thrown by the team whose balls are furthest from the pallino. Team players can throw their balls in any order. If a player throws three or more balls in a frame, there will be a two-point penalty awarded to the other team.
Players may step on but not over the foul line before releasing the pallino or a bocce ball.
SCORING
1. Matches are won by winning two out of three games. If a team wins the first two games, it is not necessary to play the third game.
2. If the match is not completed within 2 hours, the team leading wins the match. If the teams are tied in the third game after two hours of play, one additional frame is played to determine the winner.
3. Team standings are based on games won. One point is awarded for each game won in a match. If a team forfeits a match the opposing team is awarded two points for the match.
4. If a match is rained out each team is awarded one point for the match.
