League Details
- 16 players in total, split into 2 divisions (Cutten and Hack) consisting of 8 players each. The league consists of a 7 round regular season, followed by 3 single elimination knock-out playoff rounds (divisional semi-finals, divisional finals, and a league final). The top 4 teams in each division based on total points will qualify for the playoff rounds. The bottom 4 in each division will be eliminated from playoff contention.
- Format is match play (i.e. total strokes over the course of 18 holes are not counted. Instead, each hole is separate from the others and the player with the lower score on a hole goes "1 up" while the player with the higher score goes "1 down". If scores are equal then the hole is "halved"). The match is over when a player can no longer come back as they are down more holes than what remain in the match. The final match score is recorded once this happens, not at the end of the agreed upon match length.
- Match length must be agreed upon and understood between both players prior to teeing off on the first hole. Matches can be 9 or 18 holes in length.
- If a player needs to get multiple matches in to meet the regular season schedule deadline, there is an option to play two different matches against two different players within the same 18 hole round. Each match would consist of 12 holes, with the first match consisting of holes 1-12 and the second match consisting of holes 6-18. Careful attention will need to be played to the handicapping of the holes to make sure that each match is playing by the rules.
- Once a match is completed, the winning player will receive three points and the losing player will receive 0 points. If a match is tied, players will each receive 1 point. No additional holes beyond the predetermined round length prior to the match starting will be allowed to break a tie during the regular season rounds.
- Handicaps are used during match play to even the playing field amongst all players. The difference in handicaps between two players determines how many strokes are given during a particular match. For example, a 16 handicap vs. a 8 handicap means the 16 handicap player receives 1 stroke off their score for the 8 hardest holes listed on the course's scorecard (on the scorecard Handicap 1 is the hardest hole while 18 is the easiest). Golf Canada is the preferred handicapping app, but you will need some legitimate way to track scores and update your handicap. If you play 9 holes your handicap is cut in half. If playing 12 holes, take 2/3 of your handicap.
- Each regular season "round" lasts for a 2 week period. A predetermined schedule can be found on the league website outlining each player's matchup for all 7 rounds. Each scheduled matchup must be completed within the allotted 2 week time period. For situations where a match can not be completed within the allotted two week time period, a two week grace period will be given to complete the match. However, should a matchup not be completed after the additional two week grace period, both players will be awarded a loss and receive 0 points for the round. So get your matches in fuckers! Don't need any of the shenanigans we had to deal with a couple years ago trying to get everybody's matches in last minute to determine who makes/misses the playoffs. If you have the opportunity to get a match in early, feel free to do so, but don't make a habit of it. The point of the league is to have matches spread out over the summer.
- Players are responsible for setting up the time and location for each round's matchup. This should be mutually agreed upon by both players. For regular season matchups, there are no prerequisites for the course that is played. The only requirement is that the course plays at a minimum of 6,000 yards, unless both players agree on a shorter course/tees. If for some reason you and your partner cannot agree on a course to play, you must select one of the following: Guelph Lakes, Ariss Valley, Rebel Creek, Grey Silo, Springfield, Savannah Links, Victoria Park East, Mystic, Copetown, or Innerkip.
- Once the match is completed, send a picture of the scorecard and the match score to Kyle and he will upload the scores to the website standings.
- The first two playoff rounds with be played within the divisions, 1v4 and 2v3. The winners of these matches will move on to the divisional finals. As a reward, the higher seed from the regular season always gets to choose the course where the match is played.
- The winners from each divisional final will move on to the league final. The player with the higher regular season seeding will have choice of course. Should the players have the same seeding, then the player with the higher +/- from the regular season will be the tiebreak.
- Playoffs should be played at courses of the caliber listed a couple points above. No private courses will be played for playoff matches unless both players agree.
-Payout will be $500 for first, $200 for second and $100 for third. First place also wins the Club Up Customs Cup presented by Club Up Customs.
Rules
- Handicaps must be tracked by an app or website of your choice. All scores need to be kept honestly for the entire season (including games outside of match play)
- Ties must end in a tie. You cannot add holes to decide a winner or loser (except in playoffs)
- Tiebreaker to qualify for the playoffs is decided by head to head matchups, followed by +/-, then a coin flip.
- Gimmies must be given by your opponent. If you hit the ball and miss, a gimmie cannot be granted after-the-fact.
- Play the rules of golf. If you don't know all the rules, do some research and try to schedule your matches with another match to help keep rulings consistent across groups.
Some quick tips:
Red Stakes - Lateral Hazard - Drop where you entered or last crossed land, 2 club lengths from the hazard, no closer to the hole. 1 stroke penalty.
Yellow Stakes - Water Hazard - Drop in line where you entered but you may back up as far as you'd like. 1 stroke penalty.
White Stakes - Out of Bounds - Hit from the same spot. 1 stroke penalty.
If you don't know if it's out of bounds or not, tell your partner you're hitting a provisional
You can always pick up your ball and concede the hole but try to avoid this if you can make less than double par for handicap purposes. Double par is the max score for each hole (ie. a 8 on a par 4, a 10 on a par 5).
Message the group chat if you have any questions but we're excited to get the competitive juices flowing and see who gets the yips when the pressure is on.
Side bets are strongly encouraged. The season officially starts April 28th.
