About Delaware Field Hockey Association

Delaware Field Hockey Association (DFHA), founded in 2020, is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization based in Middletown, Delaware, but our network spans all parts of Delaware. We have varying levels of play (fun and competitive) for adult women and men 18 and above. We also offer training clinics for youth players in Delaware ranging in many ages on occasion.

DFHA works to bring adult field hockey opportunities, such as pickup, leagues, tournaments, and club team travel tourism, to Delaware. We also partner with preexisting communities, leagues, and clubs already in place throughout the state of Delaware, working to reintroduce players of all playing levels and nationalities or to introduce adults to hockey for the first time (especially our male players). We also invite graduating high school or college players to the world of adult hockey. We strive to bring more opportunities for adult hockey to the state for men, women, and children. You can join the association or help support it by donating or sponsoring our cause through our menu above.

Spring League

2025

DE Turf, April 4—May 30

Join us this spring for our pick-up league (8 dates) on Fridays from 6-7 pm! This is a flexible, friendly, relaxed playing environment with make-your-own calls and no referees or trainers. We draw teams weekly with a shuffle of field hockey sticks. This is the perfect introductory opportunity into DFHA or a way to get started with field hockey again. If you’ve been playing, we view it as a warm-up to the outdoors from the winter season.

The league registration is $80 per player for the full season (8 games) from April through May. This includes a league wristband.

NEW! REFEREE TRAINING

Get started on your path to reffing field hockey with DFHA and be offered paid games to referee directly after your training with us. Become a part of our local referee network this summer!

Starting this spring, DFHA will offer adult referee coaching sessions for groups and individuals for $45 with Diego Cazares, our Referee Director, and an international umpire.

Our referees earn about $50 per game, so the training pays for itself after your very first game. Referee training sessions will be announced here after the schedule is confirmed. Sign-up today!

League Information

Sign up for DFHA’s 5th Annual Summer 7’s League! Games will be played on Monday nights at 6 or 7 p.m. at DE Turf. The address is 4000 Bay Rd, Milford, DE 19963. All referee and trainer fees are incorporated into team and player costs. We have increased our referee fees and trainer costs to the standard rate. Each regular season game will have one referee, and playoff games will have two referees. Teams are allotted ten players 18+ years of age and above for their roster.

The league runs from June 2 to July 28 for regular season play. The first week of August is the playoffs, and only the top-performing teams advance.

ALL players must register individually, whether on a team or as a free agent. All returning teams are set up for individual player registration and payment. Teams must have a minimum of 9 players. Teams under this threshold will be automatically assigned free agents and notified of player additions at the close of registration.

We are also offering new team registration for captains. New teams can opt to pay the $1000 team registration cost in full. If you want players to sign up and pay individually, contact Christopher Phillips – phillipschris2012@gmail.com // 1-443-359-0719. The price will increase by $150 without the pay-in-full discount. If you are a returning team captain and would prefer to pay in full, also reach out to Chris, and we can adjust your team’s setting for the $150 cost savings benefit.

If your team captain has paid in full, up to ten players will be free. There is a $150 discount for paying in full. Adding more than ten players to your roster would cost an additional $115 per player and is capped at fifteen players for added roster flexibility during the summer months.

As a reminder, all players must still register individually regardless of the payment amount due. They must be verified as being over the age of +18 to be represented on your team’s roster, and player participation may be checked against your roster at any time.
