What is double elimination?

Double elimination is a tournament format where a player or team must lose two games in order to be eliminated from the competition.

In a double elimination tournament, there are two brackets, the "winners" bracket and the "losers" bracket. Players or teams who win their first game advance to the winners bracket, while those who lose their first game drop to the losers bracket.

In the winners bracket, players or teams continue to play until there is only one player or team remaining. In the losers bracket, players or teams who lose continue to play until there is only one player or team left.

The winner of the winners bracket and the winner of the losers bracket then play against each other in a final match to determine the overall champion. In some double elimination tournaments, the winner of the losers bracket must beat the winner of the winners bracket twice in order to win the tournament.

This format allows players or teams to continue playing even after losing once, adding an extra level of excitement and competition to the tournament.
