About Adelaide Hockey Club

The Club has been running a successful Minkey hockey program at Park-19 since 1990. In the 2015/2016 season, 300 children from 13 local primary schools played in the program each Friday.

Minkey caters for primary school children generally from Yrs 2-4 and is played on a field approximately one quarter of a normal pitch. The rules for Minkey are very few to make it easier for the beginner, ie there are no penalty or long corners and hitting is not allowed. Safety and fun are the main priorities. Half-field caters for Years 5&6 and is played on half a hockey pitch (funny that!). Corners and hitting are now allowed.

The Minkey season runs for 19 weeks over Terms 2&3 - from May until September - including a two-week break for mid-term holidays in July. Games are played on Friday afternoons, rain or shine, at fields located on the corner of Greenhill and Beaumont Roads in the South Parklands. This location has enough space for 8 Minkey fields and 10 half-field pitches. The programme is school based and the teams are generally a mixture of girls and boys. The schools that participate are generally from around the local area.

Umpires for the matches are generally AHC junior players and it is a great way to introduce our club players to becoming and umpire.
